On Monday the 13th February 2012 the verdict of the Turin Eternit Trial will be announced: it is the largest and most important criminal case ever on asbestos-related deaths. Three thousand victims in four Italian plants - Casale Monferrato, Cavagnolo, Rubiera, Napoli – await justice.
Casale Monferrato has paid and will unfortunately continue to pay a very high price in deaths among its workers and members of the community: over 1800 deaths and hundreds suffering from asbestos related diseases, as well as a willful and permanent environmental disaster caused by the Belgian- Swiss multinational of the two defendants, Stephan Schmidheiny and Luis de Cartier de Marchienne.
After thirty years spent fighting for justice, decontamination, and research we hope this verdict will be a major step forward in the world struggle against the use of asbestos and for the protection of public health.
