Denmark wants delegations back at the negotiating table despite suggestions of a breakdown
Despite suggestions from several parties overnight that an operational COP15 climate agreement is unlikely, sources close to the negotiations tell Politiken.dk that negotiations are ongoing. “We are battling like mad and have not given up, but we need the help of the world’s leaders. The gaming has to stop, or it will be very difficult,” the source says.
Another source tells DR this morning that COP15 will only end with an agreement if the major countries sit down together and run the negotiations. Asked whether Denmark will continue to lead the negotiations, Politiken.dk’s source says ‘Yes, of course”.
Sources say that Denmark will be trying to get nations back to the negotiating table today by Prime Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen addressing the plenary to ask for the end-game process to begin again.
According to reports in the media, Denmark has given up the idea of an agreement ensuring that the earth’s temperature does not increase by more than two degrees, and has decided to drop the presentation of a draft climate agreement.
